Lewis is a final year Aerospace Engineering student at the University of Bath. In 2022, he completed a placement at Europe’s largest defence contractor, BAE Systems. Lewis worked on Tempest, the UK’s next generation combat aircraft, he performed flight system modelling, aerodynamic analysis and researched novel technologies for the future cockpit. Lewis also led the drone swarming team at BAE, developing behavioural algorithms for autonomous control of multiple UAVs simultaneously.
Joe is a final year Integrated Mechanical and Electrical Engineering student at the University of Bath. He did his placement year in 2022 at Schaeffler, a manufacturer in the aerospace, automotive and industrial industries. Joe worked on optimising production schedules, liaising with suppliers and analysing stock valuations. In 2023, he was Systems Integrator in a UAS Group Business Design Project, focusing on power systems and avionics, and designed an in-flight charger to strengthen the VTOL UAV's maritime logistics use case.
Harry is a final year Aerospace Engineering student at the University of Bath and has completed a year long placement working on UAVs at Callen-Lenz in 2021/22. During this time, he developed skills in Manufacturing and Flight Operations, Systems Engineering and Business Development. Some of his most notable achievements during this placement were: accruing 45 hours as an Internal UAS Pilot; building an 8kg multirotor; designing and manufacturing numerous aircraft parts for large fixed wing UAVs.
Luke is a final year Aerospace Engineering student who did a placement at the UK Atomic Energy Authority as part of a team designing prototype cutting and welding tools for the ITER Fusion Reactor. He selected the propulsion system and designed a cruise propeller for a maritime endurance VTOL UAV as part of the UAS Group Business Design Project. As Prototyping and Sustainability Lead, Luke puts emphasis on testing regularly and often and the use of sustainable practices throughout the project.
Jacob is a final year Integrated Mechanical and Electrical Engineering student at the University of Bath. Passionate about electronics and power systems, he had his placement year at Ward & Burke, focusing on electrical integration in wastewater treatment plants. In 2023 he was the Systems Integrator for his Group Business Design Project designing a maritime endurance VTOL UAV. He developed a Simulink model of the battery and motor pairing, which gave valuable insight into lithium-ion cell performance under different stress conditions.
Mai Chi is currently in her final year of Aerospace Engineering at the University of Bath. She has just returned from Edinburgh after a collaboration with Danfoss Scotland LTD on a project of transferring their latest digital displacement pump – DDP1X0 from a prototype in the lab to the mass production scale. In the team, Chi is responsible for the lift system of the competing UAV. With experience in cost model construction during her industrial placement, she will ensure the UAV is made under a desirable budget.
Carlos is a final year Aerospace student at the University of Bath. He spent a year at Consolite Technology working as a mechanical design engineer, where he designed and prototyped a LiFi system to be used in naval environments. He developed a strong interest towards manufacturing technologies and electromechanical design which led him to his role as Technical Planner as part of this UAS Group Business Design Project. His passion outside of the engineering world is playing basketball.
Vincent is a final year Aerospace Engineering student at the University of Bath, passionate in aerodynamics and 3D printing. In 2022 , he worked at a product design company in Hong Kong where he worked on several projects and acquired experience in prototyping and 3D printing Last summer, Vincent worked for the government of Hong Kong, here he researched traffic signalling and control systems. He is now excited to contribute his skills and insights from his work experience to the team.
Dan is a final year Aerospace Engineering student at the University of Bath and has completed a year long placement at Prismatic, a BAE owned drone company working on solar UAVs. During this time, he worked on the aircraft’s simulation and modelling, power generation system and power storage system for both design, test and integration. Dan was on the team during the June 2023 stratospheric flight and got to go on trial for the company to WSMR in New Mexico, USA.
